Fiddler-like customizability is definately something I'm planning. But I won't implement it until I've first implemented a scheme-comparator function, that will compare a host's scheme with all of your own schemes, find the most similar one, and show you the list of differences. Otherwise there will be way too many surprises.

Why don't you just tell us what hypothetical features aren't going to be in? I'm beginning to suspect it would be quicker.

Wow, this patch is going to make w:a a whole new game! Great work!! One question though, is it being made to be compatible with Annelid's snooper? He's said he's retiring from programming so he probably won't update it to conform with whatever ranks and such you are implementing

what about ranks and secure logins?

Good question. Any answers?

ahhh damn.. i found something. srry

Ok, I'm pretty sure I will be working on ranks and secure logins. But I want to do it right. And that means getting other things ready and restructured first. In fact I've been pulling some all-nighters restructuring some things.

just a clarification...
I believe Annelid said he was retiring from Worms, not programming. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be using new programs he makes for other games.

technical question

DC how do you build the patch... is there a program that let's you decipher the code into something that resembles C++, rather than the gobbeldygoop i get when I use the edit comand in dos.

I'm not a programer by any means but i'd linke to learn C++ and/or VB. That way i can make gateways when builting websites.

later DC,

Cade

I don't mean to bug you Deadcode, but can we get a progess update? Are things running smoothly or have you ran into any difficulties?

If you were to get done soon, do you know Team17's plans for releasing the patch? Something for an approximate release date perhaps?

These stats may not be correct; Opera has an "identify as browser" setting, that is set by default to IE 6.
More people should use Opera, I find it runs around 1 1/2 times faster than IE, with pages, transfers, everything. Who cares if it has a banner ad?! And while I'm on the subject, who cares if some guy sitting in a CEO office in Norway (or wherever) knows I visited the Team17 forum at 3:50pm AEST?! I don't mind adware if it only submits browsing info!

I'm not sure where these stats are, I haven't read all nine pages of the thread, so I've lost track a bit , but I guerss these are webstats...

I use opera too , and have it set to identify as IE - the overlib library doesn't seem to work when it's set to identify as opera, as much as I'd like to be officialy known as an opera user on stats...

However I do think that opera still has the word opera somewhere in its tag, even when identifying as another browser. I'm not really sure, but readme I believe has accounted for this on his website ( http://readme.resource-locator.com/ ) 's stats - which he wrote himself.... anyway, completely off-topic , so uh... look forward to patch.

Not a big deal, but what about an option to turn off "XXXXX has joined the channel" messages? They get in the way when you're trying to chat, but if you don't want to get rid of them, no biggie.

Make that an option, because I like those. I wish to see who has joined instead of look for a list of 60 players...

I'd like to see the notices in Salmon-coloured and not bloody red.
I wonder why sometimes it shows who has left the channel and not always. That's weird.

Also, one should be able to type while attempting to join a game because I find myself cancelling the loading while responding to small PMs.

This thread might be too obsolete though....

Yea this thread might be a bit tired but that's okay,

I would like to know where the beta patches stand as of know... I had some hardware trouble and I had to go off line for a while, (IRQ sharing is NOT GOOD) anyhow after a little debugging and a new HDD here I am now what the hell did I miss?

I thought I saw a beta 3 release... and where is beta 4 at now. The last i heard a fiddler type program was to be added to W:A for online use. Is this a go or was the idea scrapped, worm pacement in the terain editor?

And DC I had asked you if it was possable to greate gatway interfaces for web use in VB or in C++ but i missed it if you answered. I know it is generally done in perl which is kinda like C++ but i dn't know any programing languages, other than a little bit of JavaScript (which is accually a scripting language and not a programing language like JAVA is.)

I would agree with a color change as well, even if it was something as basic as the way you cycle through the color presets in a BIOS program. Though that would probably take some serious work and changing sprites and what knot. (not that you aren't already doing serious work). I don't want to kill you over this patch.

I'll also agree with someone that said you are tring to get the most out of this games engine...(though i don't know what a game engine is either) it sounds to me like you want to really stretch and expand worms to everything it can be. But let me ask you this... do you think it would have been easier to start from scratch and accually recode all of the sorce code that your using.. I find that works when I am building a web page. I have deleted an entire site because aof a few tiny flaws.

Well Later DeadCode,
Keeper,
Joe

yeeee-HAW

Okay first off thanks to the moderaters I got my old nic back... I'm "Being Watched" But what the hell At least I don't have to use stupid nics any more.

DC Let me compliment you your doing a fine job on the patch updates and what not. I need to ask a few hundred questions here though,

1. I understand the importance of ranks but why secure logins? I mean is someone really going to hack your worms ID or monitor your games on Wormnet? Or is there more to this I'm Not Aware of.

2. What does Wascar stand for?

3. What is Silkworm used for

4.) <!-- Hey DON"T LAUGH AT ME IT'S NOT NICE! -->

4.5. In the next beta Patch would it be possable to adjust the gravity to a negative factor? So all The worms are standing on the ceiling?

5. As an interesting change perhaps someone could build a new sprite for the water to that it looks like a boiling lake of lava or like something out of Supermario 3...lol

6. Could a larger area than the 1920 X 696 pixel area be used for gameplay. I was thinking like 2200 X 900 as a really neat sized map. and that would alow for huge rope races, Deep dug darksiders, masave ropers and shopers, and twisted BnG matches.

7. feel free to call me an idiot at any time DC

8. a gamma control as I mentioned before.

9 can new weapons be added? Like the ability drop an oil drum for stragic purposes. or a macine gun with tracers that spread fire on contact/impact. I'd like to laugh at an exploding EMU or Kangaroo or something like that.

10 And hot keys like the function keys for weapons, but for the utilities. Like "U" would be great.

______________________________________________

Thant's about all I can think of in my little bundle today.

See ya later DC

The "energy_keeper" is back!

This one already exists. It's the [~`] key, above [Tab] and left of [1] on most keyboards.

Erm cade.../keeper/joe..
Whatever name you want lol..

The gobbledy-goop you refer to is your editors misrable attempt to convert binary and hexadecimal data into the ASCII text format.

There is no program which deadcode uses to read this, as this is compiled machine code. There are alternate methods which deals with this compiled exectutable data and will 'open' it. However, doing so will be considered an attempt at reverse engineering of the software provided by Team17 and is a breach of the licence agreement, and therefore is illegal.

Deadcode can produce us these patches because he was offered the job by Team17, and he has been given the source code of the game to develop the updates with.

As for these 'gateways' you speak of, im not sure what your on about. If you mean to develop some sort of server side programming language that delivers dynamic html content (ala php), then u need to learn the HTTP protocol, TCP/IP, and some sort of decent programming language. (JS Isnt gonna cut it unless client-side is all u need)

Anyway, hope that answers your q's.

Lexxy ^_^

Nope definatly needs to be serverside, but I am having trouble grasping the concepsts of CGI Perl. The e-books I have all referance C++ and I don't know that language ... yet. I was hoping that if i take the time to sit down and learn C++ that it would make perl easier, However if I can build a gateway program in C++ then i don't need perl and can simplify my life.

Yes a gateway program is used for delivering Dynamicly produced HTML files.

However with out a perl interpretor (or a server to download it to) I have no way of testing any script that i might build. and it's a major pain in the rear to do it on Tripod's webserver since their script editor's are slow on my dial up conection.

Later...
And it's always, "Keeper"

Bug for DC (or maybe it's me)

In my version of worms, When I set the water level in the terain editor, it is sinificanly highr when I start the game... is that something that was covered by a previous patch, or is this something everyone just kind of overlokked.

When I play rope races, that i downloaded It is impossable because part of the terain is under water and too cloose to rope over.

Thanks DC,
Keeper

DC said he wants to have Fiddler schemes working... that way, new weapons, that is, they act very different but still look the same.

I like that water comment. What I liked about Worms 1 was the different types of water: there was norm water, fire, acid, etc. and different sounds when a worm hit it, ie like when the worm fell in the fire, it went "Fwoosh" and yeah.

It would be cool, but it's irrelevant.

I installed 3.6.19.14(I think it's latest) update.WOW!I have super weapons(I unlocked full wormage ),I can set resolution to 1260x960(sometimes it was very hard to shoot with a shotgun on 1024x768) and making levels is a lot easier! But I have one information(it isn't a problem for me)-I have Polish version of WA and update changed it to English...but it isn't a problem. And I agree with someone's idea-is it possible to make function which will COMPLETELY DISABLE automatic placing girders? And I found one(probably) bug. When I played mission "Bazooka on the rocks" and I wanted to place girder close to medpack and I'm SURE that there wasn't any obstacles,it was impossible! My Worm stayed very closely to selected area and it was impossible to place the girder.Maybe someone got similar problem?
